Passing of Roger Morris

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Roger Morris.

(30/01/1935 – 19/02/2025)

Roger was a highly valued member of our club. He was a very talented right-hand batsman and wicket keeper. Roger captained the club in 1960, 1962 & 1963 coming up against the likes of Mike Proctor of Stapleton whilst he was qualifying for Gloucestershire.

A gentleman who found the perfect balance between winning and playing in the right spirit, Roger enjoyed much success on the field with Cowbridge playing alongside some of Cowbridge’s greats of the 1960’s and 1970's.

Former teammate, Martyn Bevan recalls “Roger was as brave as lion when keeping wicket. He would stand up to the quicks and took many blows for his troubles. Probably the worst injury was when he kept wicket for the South Wales Hunts against Carmarthen Hunts in Carmarthen. Roger wore specs and a delivery was top edged by a batsman into Roger’s face. He had a little first aid administered to him and carried on! He drove home that night to Cowbridge in some discomfort and was advised by his wife Ann to check out the damage, only to be told there was still some glass in his eye!”

All our thoughts and deepest sympathies go to Ann, Hugh, Andy and Susan at this time.

Funeral arrangements to be confirmed.
